My assigned issue area as a CCESL Community Engaged Fellow is the “Metropolitan Denver Nature Alliance” (mDNA). The University of Denver is a partner in the mDNA’s upcoming project to provide the Metro-Denver community with high quality green space, programs that are culturally appropriate, and outdoor programs to connect youth and nature. The initiative is being funded by a $100,000 Great Outdoors Colorado grant that will help mDNA partner with more organizations and build better programs to connect the growing Denver community with green space projects and others. The “planning” grant was awarded through the Trust for Public Land.

Some organizations that the mDNA includes are: Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Denver Zoo, Denver Botanic Gardens, and the Nature Conservancy. I plan to learn more about who is involved in similar projects here on campus and what they are doing to connect with the surrounding community.
